I'm a little tired of DA's strick instant faving of fanart.
Not that fanart is bad, but it's always nice to have something you put alot of effort into, that isn't from some show or anime or video game, to be appreciated. But no one taking a picture you drew from your own creativity seriously is kind od annoying...
Just remember that if you going to be a real artist for a company, they HATE when you put fanart in your portfolio
EDIT 4-12-09: NO THIS IS NOT FLEUR. But remember her later.. ...
I think people fav fanart because it's something they instantly relate to, if they recognize the subject. Original art takes a little more time to appreciate. So don't feel like a jerk -- you're not!!
I really like how you did the leaves, because they actually look like they're in the wind, and you can totally see where the wind is going. The lighting is pretty, and the whole thing has a sort of slow-motion feel to it.

It's nice to know that some artists realize this. When I had my portfolio review several weeks ago, the girl ahead of me had all Kingdom Heart/anime stuff - the school really tore her apart : (
You are totally not a jerk. It's just really hard to find someone who'll take time to really look at your own original work if you're not one of those artists with 300,000 pageviews and 800 watchers.

I was looking through your gallery when I came across this picture. And yeah, fanart may have more spotlight than original, but fanart has creativity too. Just by looking through your gallery I can see that.
Anyway, this is a lovely picture, with nice shading and lighting. And her expression is lovely~
[And about the company thing - if you're going to apply to a game company/franchise, then they love fanart... Of their products. ]
Uuugh, I really don't play KH or many video games anymore. That was back in my early days at DA when I was a young, hyper 14 year old who was trying to be cute and I'm a little embarassed by all of it But live and learn....I mostly keep it for nostalgic reasons.
I usually post most original my original character doodles at my journal (see below) But I've been trying to uplaod more original stuff when I'm not to damn lazy
But yes, I do agree with you. I do love fanart when It's done well and creatively. Not just "oh-hay-i-drew- this-character-making-out-with-so-and-so-give-me-lots-of-faves" I try to do something special with my fanart that no one else has done.
And thanks for such kind words I'll keep that intership bit in my head even though it might be unlikely I'll go into the gaming industry.
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.

Good and Evil is not always as simple as Black and White. The Grey area's a lot bigger than you think.

I made a custom brush in a leaf shape and scattered it. Then I duplicated the layer and set it to motion blur, and viola!
